Invitation
Dear Colleagues,
The city has played a leading role in history and museums of the city are gateways to understanding this great and complex artifact. They focus on the realities of city life, on the city’s diversity, on its cultural and natural heritage and on all the problems and possibilities that living in the city presents. With their particular expertise and perspective on the city they can contribute positively to its well being.
Our conference is about the contribution these unique museums can make to shaping the city’s future, and a variety of topics will be explored through formal presentations, panel discussions and workshops. The conference is open not only to museum professionals, but also, and this is important, to all those with an interest and involvement in the city and urban living.
The Seoul Museum of History is a very active partner in the work of CAMOC and with its long experience of organizing international conferences we look forward to a lively few days where we can share a variety of different city experiences, viewpoints and perspectives.

Welcome Message
Greetings,
The Seoul Museum of History is delighted and honored to host CAMOC’s annual conference. The conference will be held in a world metropolis, Seoul is ready to welcome experts and indeed anyone interested and involved in cities and city museums, to share ideas and set new paradigms.
Seoul is a city of infinite discoveries. The ancient capital of an ancient land, Seoul is a city where the traditional and the cutting-edge exist side-by-side in perfect harmony. It’s a dynamic city that never sleeps, and the list of things to do is endless, from sampling the outstanding cuisine served in the city’s excellent restaurants to climbing the rock faces that overlook the city or visiting the Changdeokgung Palace and the Jongmyo Mausoleum, two of UNESCO’s world heritage sites.
Located in the heart of Seoul the Seoul Museum of History was established to strengthen understanding and awareness of Seoul by showing its long history and traditional culture as a capital city of Korea. Our museum has been making great efforts to preserve, collect and study the city's cultural heritage. In addition, as an open and public museum we provide Seoul citizens, Korean and international visitors with various educational programs and cultural experiences, such as musical performances and movies. Furthermore, the Seoul Museum of History has hosted an annual symposium since 2002.
With the greatest enthusiasm and confidence, all of our staffs look forward to helping you enjoy the conference and Seoul's lively culture.
Truly,
Woo-Lim Kim
