Kang Eunil & Haegum Plus
Kang Eun-il & Haegum Plus perform several genres with Haegum and other Oriental and Western instruments. The music promotes communication beyond time and space. It is also a retrospective of
Korean traditional music's past, creating the present toward the future. His Korean New Music group attempts to reach a balance between Korean traditional music and modern age. Kang Eun-il & Haegum Plus, Yoshida Brothers of Japan and 12 Ladies Music Chambers of China are the most distinguished groups representing Asia with their own indigenous instruments. Kang Eun-il & Haegum Plus use Korean traditional music as their text and express pure crossover music spanning from Asia to the West. Kang’s music displays the Haegum's potential and place in the global context. The Haegum originally has a slow and rough tone. However, Kang Eun-il translates the tradition into a new music full of beautiful melodies and great temperance. Her music approaches us as a lyric poem. Her bowing, strong and gracious, will make her fans happy with renewed appreciation of Korean music's potential and give foreigners, who are unfamiliar with Korean music, an opportunity to share in a universal musical experience.
Free concert at the lobby of the Seoul Museum of History
- Date & Time: October 7, 19:00
- Performed by the Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Music Orchestra
It is the first traditional music orchestra in Korea.
They have been putting enormous efforts in creative transformation of traditional music and popularization of creative music. They have held 290 regular concerts and some 2000 special concerts. Their concerts in Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, France, the USA, India, Uzbekistan, and Russia were successful and fully appreciated internationally. The Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Music Orchestra has developed numerous creative string music pieces that are modern yet have bases in traditional Korean music. The creation and introduction of these new musical pieces have been a stepping stone to development of creative music in Korea and popularization of Korean traditional music by trying new genres such as traditional Korea pop-music, fusions, and music videos. The Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Music Orchestra is promoting internationalization of Korean traditional music to become a front-runner in traditional Korea string music in the 21st century.
